(Des Moines, IA) -- A bill passed by the Iowa House and now moving through the Senate would allow the state to collect and store DNA from anyone who is arrested, even if they’re later cleared of a crime.

Supporters, pointing to similar laws in other states, say DNA collection can help speed up the process of proving someone’s innocence. Opponents argue it would create a statewide DNA database that could be used to track people.

The bill still needs to advance out of subcommittee.
