(Iowa) -- The largest archery tournament in Iowa begins Friday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
Roughly 2,800 student archers from over 145 schools across the state are expected to compete in the tournament through the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says participation in NASP in Iowa has grown significantly since the program began in 2006. Zach Benttine with the Iowa DNR says:
"This is our 19th state championships but the 20th year. We started with 7 schools, and now we're up to 260 schools, and about 160 of those are competitive."
The Iowa NASP State Championship begins Friday, March 27th at 4pm. The bullseye competition will be held at the Varied Industries, and the 3D competition will be held in the Jacobsen Center. The bullseye competition will feature 75 targets, allowing for up to 150 students to shoot at the same time. 48 targets will be set up for the 3D competition, which allowed for up to 96 participants at a time.
Admission is $10 for those age 19 and older, while anyone age 18 or younger can attend for free. More, including the full schedule of events, is available on the Iowa Department of Natural Resources website.
