New Report Ranks Safest Cities in Iowa

(Iowa) -- A new report ranks the safest cities in Iowa.

The latest annual Safewise Safest City report ranks cities based primarily on FBI crime statistics per 1,000 residents including violent crime, property crime, and overall crime rate. The report ranks Sioux Center as Iowa's safest city. The top 10 safest cities in Iowa include:

  1. Sioux Center
  2. Orange City
  3. Eldridge
  4. Polk City
  5. Asbury
  6. Algona
  7. Norwalk
  8. Decorah
  9. North Liberty
  10. Adel

Statewide, Iowa's rates of violent crime and property crime are trending below the national average. Iowa averages 3.22 violent crimes per 1,000 residents, compared to the national average of 4.3 Iowa sees an average of 19.27 property crimes per 1,000 residents, also below the national average of 22.89.
