(Iowa) -- Saturday is National Prescription Drug Takeback Day, and the Iowa Department of Public Safety is encouraging Iowans to participate.
The event happens twice per year and is an opportunity to safely, conveniently, and anonymously dispose of unused or expired medications. Sites across Iowa will be hosting National Prescription Drug Takeback Day events on Saturday from 10am-2pm. During October's collection, Iowans turned in 7,071 pounds of unneeded or unused medications at statewide events. During events on Saturday, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will also be taking vaping devices and e-cigarettes as long as the batteries are removed.
Iowans can take unused or expired medications to any of Iowa's 400 permanent Prescription Drug Take Back locations across the state year-round. More information is available on the Iowa Department of Public Safety website.
