(Iowa) -- Thursday is one of the busiest travel days of the long, Memorial Day holiday and the Iowa State Patrol will be out in force.

Sergeant Alex Dinkla says extra troopers will be looking for speeders as well as distracted and impaired drivers.

"The other thing that kicks off on Memorial Day weekend is the 100 deadliest days of summer. That is a tracking period that is known for a high rate of teen fatalities between Memorial Day and Labor Day," said Dinkla.

Dinkla says there is still a problem with people using their phones while driving.

Enforcement of Iowa's hands-free cellphone law went into effect in January.

Since then, a total of 56-hundred tickets have been issued to violators by all law enforcement statewide.
