(Des Moines, IA) -- The final five Iowa National Guard soldiers deployed under Operation Spartan Shield have returned to the United States.

The Iowa National Guard says the soldiers, assigned to Detachment 6, 2nd Battalion, 641st Aviation Regiment, arrived home Tuesday, marking the end of their deployment.

Guard officials say the unit serves as a specialized aviation organization within the U.S. Army, responsible for providing high-priority, short-notice air transportation for personnel and cargo.

A formal recognition ceremony will be held at a later date.
