(Moline, IL) -- Amtrak passenger rail service from the Quad Cities to Chicago is closer than it's ever been.
That's the word from IL-17 Congressman Eric Sorensen.
He's working with Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin to get a five-year extension on $177-million in federal funding earmarked for the project in 2010.
Iowa Interstate Railroad had been holding up the project, but are now onboard, and Illinois has committed $225-million to Amtrak service.
If the funding extension is approved, Sorensen hopes a construction plan is ready in the Spring.
