Operating a train service should be done by a train corporation. Not by the government. The government cannot even operate the train service in the nation's seat of government without disastrous overspending.
The Government Accountability Office released a report Monday that shows the promised retirement benefits the train workers expect cannot be paid. What a surprise. Private companies pretty well left guaranteed pension benefits years ago because the companies could not afford the benefits.
The AmTrak of Washington rolls merrily along, promising what it cannot deliver.
