Jackson County gets $300,000 donation for new jail, sheriff building

Jackson County, Iowa - A big donation hopes to boost an effort to get voters to pass a bond for a new jail and sheriff's office in Jackson County.

Dave North's family has given $300,000 dollars ahead of the August 6th vote.

The county says overcrowding is a problem at the current facility and safety concerns put the jail at risk of being shut down.

Officials hope the big donation will reduce the price tag voters did not want to pay for last year.

A $6.9 million bond fell short in August of 2018.

KWQC-TV the measure will take effect with 60-percent of people voting in favor.
