Moline High School Student With Rare Virus Receives Heart Transplant

MOLINE, Illinois - There is an update on a Moline High School student was stricken with a mysterious virus that attacked his heart.

Dakovion Kennedy has been hospitalized in Chicago and received a heart transplant. His family reports he is breathing on his own. His family announced that his body is receiving the heart well.

Dakovion became ill in September following football practice when he suffered a concussion. The next morning he had a fever and his family took him to an emergency room for treatment. That is when the rare illness was discovered.

KWQC TV6 reports that a new post shows there is a new fundraiser to help his family in their time of need. Their goal is to raise $20,000.

An earlier fundraiser reached over $11,000. The post read, "I would like to sincerely thank each and every one of you for all your donations and above all your prayers for Kovi and our family."

The post also reaches out to the family who lost a loved one and made the organ donation.
