Burlington Man Facing Drug Charges After Police Pursuit

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa - An arrest is made in an early morning police chase from West Burlington to Lee County early Tuesday morning.

KWQC TV6 28 year old William Caskey is charged with possession intent to deliver methamphetamine, eluding and failure to affix drug tax stamp. He is also charged with running a stop sign and yield to the right of way, speeding and driving with a suspended license.

A Des Moines County Sheriff's deputy saw a car speed away from a West Burlington convenience store around 1 a.m. Tuesday. According to the arrest affidavit, the deputy followed the car and tried to pull it over. The driver kept going and the deputy saw the driver throw a plastic bag out of the window near Hospice House on Washington Road.

The car turned south on Roosevelt Avenue when two officers with the West Burlington Police Department joined in the pursuit. The suspect kept going on Highway 61 before stop sticks were deployed in Lee County.

Investigators say Caskey was the only person in the car. West Burlington Police found the plastic bag apparently thrown from the speeding vehicle and it contained methamphetamine.

Caskey was in court Tuesday and his bond is set at $150,000. His preliminary hearing is set for February 27th.
