Woman charged in Rock Island stabbing that killed a 14 year old girl

(Rock Island, IL) -- An 18 year old woman is behind bars in connection to a Rock Island stabbing that left a 14 year old girl dead Wednesday.

Investigators say Jimena Jinez, of Rock Island, was arrested early Thursday and booked into Rock Island County Jail on a charge of first degree murder. She is being held on a $1.5 million cash-only bond.

Rock Island Police say officers were called to a home in the 1200 block of 11th Street around 8:15 Wednesday night for a reported stabbing. Officers rendered aid to the victim, 14 year old Lyric Stewart, until Rock Island paramedics took over and transported her to Trinity Rock Island. Police say Stewart was then transferred to University Hospitals, Iowa City, where she died from her injuries.

Police say Jinez was arrested early Thursday in rural Rock Island County by detectives with the criminal investigation division.
