(Webster City, Iowa) -- Closing arguments are underway in the the trial of the man accused of killing an Iowa State Patrol Trooper last year.

Michael Lang is accused of shooting and killing Iowa State Patrol Sergeant Jim Smith during a standoff in Grundy Center in April of last year. Lang declined to take the stand in his own defense, and throughout the course of the trial, his attorneys called no witnesses. The prosecution is giving its closing argument first, with the defense delivering its closing statement afterward. Lang's defense is arguing there isn't enough evidence to justify the first-degree murder charge.

Once closing arguments have concluded, the jury will begin deliberations on the verdict.
