(Iowa City, IA) -- A group of university Democrats is splitting with the state party. In a letter posted on Facebook, the Iowa State University College Democrats formally cut ties with the Iowa Democratic Party in support of the club at the University of Iowa.

Student leaders of the University of Iowa Democrats are being asked to resign by state party leadership over a social media post containing anti-semitic content.

A spokesman for The Iowa Board of Regents is stressing their support of the free exchange of ideas on their campuses.
