(Iowa City, IA) -- University of Iowa students at satellite facilities in eastern Iowa may have to travel to Iowa City for in-person learning.

UI has announced plans to close learning centers in Cedar Rapids, Davenport, and Bettendorf to improve efficiency and save money.

The learning centers include the Tippie College of Business Cedar Rapids Learning Center, the Birchwood Learning Center, and the Scott Community College Learning Center.

They say more students are choosing to take online courses.

The closure proposal will go before the Iowa Board of Regents Wednesday, February 28.
