(Silvis, IL) -- A plan to save on energy costs in Silvis has been quashed.

Alderman were unable to override Mayor Matt Carter's veto of approval for the installation of solar panels on the roof of Silvis City Hall and 10th Street fire station.

Supporters of the plan say the 325-thousand dollar cost would have been paid for with tax credits and energy savings within six years. But the Quad City Times reports that Mayor Carter says the project isn't in this year's budget.
